Air filtration, that is, it consists of two parts: filter element and casing. The filter element is the main accessory, which plays the role of gas filtration, and the casing is the shell that provides protection for the filter element. The main function of air filter is to filter the air entering the engine and purify the air quality.
The air contains a lot of impurities, such as dust and sand. If it directly enters the engine chamber without purification, it will accelerate the wear of the engine and even cause the phenomenon of "cylinder pulling". The air that enters the engine after being filtered by the air filter is relatively clean and can delay the occurrence of these problems.
As a kind of filtering device, the air filter is insignificant, but it has a light position compared with engines and other accessories. If the air filter is not filtered, natural air will directly enter the engine working room, which will lead to engine wear. If the air filter is not maintained for a long time, the filter element will be covered with dust, which will hinder air circulation and make the engine work abnormally.
The serious blockage of air filter will increase the intake resistance, which will lead to the decrease of engine power. At the same time, because of the increase of air resistance, it will also increase the fuel consumption when the engine is working, which will worsen the engine running state and increase fuel consumption. Therefore, ordinary card friends also need to maintain the filter element of air filter.
Since the role of air filter is so important, and if it is not maintained in time, it will also cause problems such as increased engine fuel consumption and decreased engine power, so can the filter element be replaced frequently? So that the engine can always be in the best working condition? The answer is no.
In addition to filtering the air, the air filter is also responsible for the air intake required by the engine. Inferior filter element, in order to reduce the cost, the quality of the materials used will be poor, which will lead to too large or too small air intake, and even fail to play a filtering role, which will directly lead to abnormal wear and tear of the engine.
So how about changing the air filter that meets the standard frequently? In order to play a good filtering role, the air filter element will have a large number of irregular gaps on the surface of its filter paper, but dust, sand, etc. are also large and small, so it is impossible to become completely pure air after being filtered by the filter element, and it will still contain some impurities.
In order to distinguish the filtration degree of the filter element, the concept of "initial interception efficiency" is introduced, which is usually expressed by percentage (%). If the initial interception efficiency is 99.95%, it means that the filter element can filter out 99.95% impurities in the air at the initial work, but 0.05% impurities cannot be filtered out, which will enter the engine with the filtered air.
Corresponding to the initial interception efficiency, there is also a "life cycle efficiency", which is also expressed by percentage (%). As the filter is used for a long time, the dust accumulated on the surface of the filter paper will gradually increase, which will block the gap between some filter paper fibers, which means that the pores between fibers become smaller, and the interception efficiency of the filter element will increase compared with the initial state.
So which interception efficiency is more advantageous, the initial interception efficiency or the whole life efficiency? An experiment was conducted in Truck House. The initial interception efficiency of an air filter can reach 99.81%, while its whole life efficiency can reach 99.98%. The difference between the two filtering effects is about 9.5 times.
That is to say, if the new air filter is used to enter the air in the engine, the impurities in it will be 9.5 times more than those in the air in the old air filter. Before, we have learned what harm will be caused to the engine by more air impurities entering the engine, so this is also the reason why the air filter element cannot be replaced frequently.
For the air filter, you can’t change it frequently, and you can’t always use a new air filter, and you can’t always change it, so you can’t get the filtering effect. So when is the best time to change the air filter?
Under normal circumstances, the effective service life of general air filters is about 20,000-30,000 kilometers, but the service life of air filters will be different due to the actual working conditions of the car and the engine, which will be mentioned in the maintenance manual attached to the car.
