Xiaomi cooperates with India’s Hipad Technology to produce power banks

[Global Network Technology Comprehensive Report]According to foreign media reports, smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi said on the same day that it has partnered with Hipad Technology in Noida, India, to produce chargers, which is Xiaomi’s third manufacturing partner in India.

Manu Jain, head of Xiaomi India, told reporters that Hipad Technology has the ability to produce seven power banks per minute. Hipad Technology mainly produces Xiaomi Power Bank 2i products with 10000mAh and 20000mAh specifications, priced at 799 rupees (1 rupee is about 10.23 yuan) and 1,499 rupees respectively.

"One of the key reasons we have seen phenomenal growth in a short period of time is our commitment to India," says Mr. Jain. "We want to provide the best quality technology at a reasonable price and local manufacturing can help us do that."

"Today, more than 95 percent of the smartphones sold in India are assembled locally," Manu Jain added. "If there is demand, we will also expand capacity or build new factories."

Xiaomi, the Chinese handset maker, has caught up with Samsung, the industry leader, in the Indian smartphone market in the third quarter, with a 23.5 per cent market share, according to IDC, the research group.

Speaking about the power bank market in India, Manu Jain said: "The power bank market has huge potential, and a major challenge is the influx of counterfeit power banks into the market. We are trying to help customers know that they have purchased the genuine product by adding holographic security markers." The holographic sticker has a scratch card that displays a set of numbers that can be checked online to determine whether the product is genuine.
